Wolves 2024 Special Edition Anniversary Kit

For the latest Shirt Of The Week blog, we are taking a look at a very special release from the West Midlands, the Wolverhampton Wanderers 2024 anniversary shirt. This brand new kit has been produced to mark the 70th anniversary of the friendly match between Wolves and Budapest Honved FC on 13th December 1954. The special edition jersey features a gorgeous retro style design, with no front sponsor and badges that blend into the shirt’s shiny gold base colour. Manufacturer Sudu have also produced a special edition box release for the kit, limited to 1954 pieces with each kit being individually numbered.

The match was the main attraction in a series of games organised by Wolves to play under their newly installed floodlights. Wolverhampton came from behind to win the game 3-2, with goals from Johnny Hancocks and Roy Swinbourne. The result helped restore some faith in the quality of English football, after the England national team lost 6-3 To Hungary in 1953 and 7-1 in May 1954. To this day, the game is seen as a historic moment in the formation of the European cup and what is now the UEFA Champions League.

As of November 15th 2024, Wolves are enduring a tough start to their Premier League campaign, with just 1 win to their name all season against fellow strugglers Southampton FC. They currently sit 19th in the league table, 2 points from safety. Matheus Cunha is the side’s top goal scorer in the league with a respectable 5 goals.
