Over the years many clubs have released special variants of kits celebrating achievements, history and sometimes just for fun. In this blog we are going to take a look at some of our favourites.

In the classic colour combo of black and gold, this beautiful football shirt was created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of legendary Brazilian Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna winning his first World Championship. The design also mimics that of the 1985-1987 Lotus that Senna achieved his first win inside. The shirt has 41 Golden lines across the front, one for every race that Senna won during his career.

In 2023, Liga MX kit manufacturer Charly teamed up with famous FPS video game franchise - Call Of Duty. Together they created 6 crazy special edition football shirts to celebrate the games 20th anniversary. One kit was made for 6 different Mexican clubs: Pachuca, Queretaro, Club Tijuana, Santos Laguna, Club Leon and Atlas FC. The football shirt designs included camouflages from the game, cover art and well known characters.

Manufactured by Puma, this special edition all black football shirt was designed to celebrate the club’s 100th birthday. The jersey unusually featured a completely black badge and sponsorship making it truly unique; the colour choice was made to represent the industrial history of the Dortmund region of Germany.

When it comes to special edition kits, nobody does it better than Swedish football club AIK who have released limited edition jerseys every season. Our favourite, the 2023 Stockholm edition, was designed to pay homage to the club's home city, showcasing 16th century inspired artistic portrayal of Stockholm on the front of the shirt.

One of the most in demand shirts of the 2020s, the Ajax 2021 -2022 third broke the record for the most shirts sold by Ajax in one day and it’s not hard to see why. This football shirt was released in collaboration with the family of Bob Marley, featuring red, yellow and green detailing, plus 3 little birds under the back of the collar, as a tribute to one of the Reggae legend’s most loved tracks.

This Jersey is a perfect example of a great looking modern shirt with a retro inspiration, made to mark the 50th anniversary of the blues winning the 1970 FA Cup. The kit features the same badge worn by Chelsea 50 years ago, along with an “invisible” sponsor and colours of classic Chelsea blue and yellow, creating a stunning special edition football shirt.

Designed by ACID FC, this pair of crazy kits have gone down in history as one of the best football shirt and club collaborations ever. The jersey’s designs are a Toile De Jouy style pattern which originates from the 1700s and was inspired by an antique market near the club's stadium. The home shirt is a gorgeous dark green colour ,while the away shirt is a striking white and red design. Both kits are part of Adidas’ Condo 20 template used by major clubs throughout the world in 2020.

Created by Japanese designer, Yohji Yamamoto and manufactured by Adidas, this modern classic kit featured 2 magnificent white dragons across the front. A boxed version, limited to 1200 pieces, was released making it a super rare collectors shirt. It was worn in the 2014-2015 season by superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.
